As you know, Apple presented its new iPhone 14 this week. The information, although overshadowed by the death of Queen Elizabeth II, has captured most of the media since Wednesday evening. While American prices have not budged across the entire new range, we quickly noticed a sharp price increase in France, with the iPhone 14 Pro notably going from 1159 euros to 1329 euros. This is largely due to the fall of the euro against the dollar, itself driven by the inflation that has hit Europe since the decision to cut off Russian gas.
On the other hand, this is the first time that Apple has not lowered the price of its old models, at least in France.
A renewed iPhone range
Since the keynote of Wednesday September 7, the new range of iPhone 2022 is now composed of:
- iPhone 14
- iPhone 14 Plus
- iPhone 14 Pro
- iPhone 14 Pro Max
- iPhone 13
- iPhone 13 mini
- iPhone SE 3 (2022)
Generally, during each renewal, Apple keeps a model of the past year by lowering its price by a hundred euros. To accompany the iPhone 14, the Cupertino-based company has not changed its habits and has kept the iPhone 13 and the iPhone 13 mini. But this time, with a particularity in terms of the price list.
In the United States, the iPhone 13 mini thus goes from $699 to $599, the same for the iPhone 13 which loses $100 to reach $699. Now, when we look at the Apple site in France, we see that the two 2021 models are still displayed at 809 € and 909 €, nothing has changed. A blow for potential customers who hoped to be able to afford a recent Apple phone at a reduced price. Especially since they remain very close to the iPhone 2022, as evidenced by our comparison between the iPhone 14 and the iPhone 13.
Apple is certainly compensating for the increase in production and import costs by keeping the same prices as last year, but with tens of millions of units produced each year, the firm has certainly written off the majority of the components that we found in the iPhone 12, iPhone 13 and iPhone 14.
It’s no worse than the iPhone SE 2022, you might say, which saw its price rise by 30 euros, from 529 euros to 559 euros overnight.
Buy the iPhone 13 at the best price
If the prices of the iPhone 14 frighten you (from 1019 €), the iPhone 13 therefore represent an alternative of choice, especially when they are found on sale at certain retailers.
