It’s the latest iPhone 14 Pro
Apple iPhone 14 range
As with previous iPhone generations, the iPhone 14 is not one smartphone but four distributions. Launching on September 16 will be the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.
The base iPhone 14 starts from £849, the iPhone 14 starts from £949, while prices for the premium iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro Max will start at £1,099 and £1,199, respectively.
There have been minor tweaks across the board plus some major new features for the next generation of iPhones. Here are some of the set updates.
iPhone 14 Pro display
The iPhone Pro 14 has a 6.1 Super Retina XDR display with a camera notch that now changes shape and size depending on the context. For example, the notch will appear to expand to show the currently playing information.
The Galaxy display is also now ‘always on’, meaning that even when not in use, the display will show basic information such as the time and some notifications.
iPhone 14 Pro battery
Apple says the new iPhone Pro battery will get 29 hours of video playback, and will charge up to 50% in half an hour using a 20W adapter.
A16 Bionic Processor
Discussed with the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max is the new A16 bionic processor, consisting of a six-core CPU and a five-core GPU with 50% more memory bandwidth than with the A15 bionic chip of the previous iPhones.
iPhone 14 Pro camera
Apple has significantly boosted the photography capabilities of the iPhone with the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, thanks to a new 48 megapixel (MP) main lens and a quad-pixel sensor – all of which means the phone will take more accurate photos.
The cinematic mode, which provides the effect of focus distortions commonly used in movies, returns – automatically changing the focus from subjects in the background to those in the background and vice versa as the camera and subjects move.
iPhone 14 Pro: Everything else
The iPhone 14 Pro does away with the physical SIM card tray, instead using a virtual ‘esIM’ card – potentially allowing users to have more than one phone number and mobile data on the same mobile phone.
Another big addition is the demand for calls via satellite, allowing users who work in the field without a signal attached to services.
Apple also took further steps to make the new iPhone more convenient, as other phone manufacturers have done for a long time, by allowing iPhone 14 users to choose the types and color schemes running on the new iOS16 operating system.
