If you have a bad habit of misplacing your keys, wallet, or bag, Apple AirTags might be the solution you’ve been looking for.
Designed to be small enough to attach to a keychain or slip into your purse or wallet, the AirTag helps you keep track of everything you attach it to, so you don’t have to. no need to spend hours looking for your keys.
Trackers aren’t necessarily a new concept, but Apple’s AirTags have proven very popular.
Not only do they pair well with other Apple products, but they are also much more affordable than many other Apple add-ons.
You can pick up a single tag for only £29.99, or pay £99.99 for a pack of four so you can use them on multiple items.
What is an AirTag?
The AirTag is very simple; it’s a small round disc that can be placed in your bag, wallet, pocket or purse to help you keep track of it.
You can also buy a holder that allows you to attach it to your keys, if you tend to forget where you put them.
The tag appears on your “Find My” app next to your devices, so if you have something stolen, or accidentally leave it on a bus, you can find it.
Your label will be completely unique to you and you can even have your individual labels engraved for free when you purchase one.
They also require an Apple device with iOs 14.5 or later installed to allow you to pair and track your tags.
It can also be set up with just one click, so as soon as you get yours it can be ready to go, and Apple says it comes with excellent battery life, lasting up to a year before that the battery does not need to be replaced.
Your AirTag is also splash, dust and water resistant up to one meter, so if you lose your keys in a puddle, your AirTag should stay safe and sound.
How it works?
Your AirTag allows you to find all your missing items, whether they are in the house or have been lost.
You name each tag and what it’s connected to, like “wallet” or “keys,” and add it to your Find My app.
The AirTag then sends a secure Bluetooth signal that helps your phone find the missing AirTag.
If you’ve misplaced something, all you have to do is select what you’re missing and trigger your AirTag to play audio from its built-in speaker.
Then all you have to do is follow the sound and find your missing item.
If you have an iPhone 11 or later, it will even tell you how far away you are and in which direction it uses its precision search.
If it’s not in the house, your Find My app will show on a map where you last had it, using the Find My network.
This means that your AirTag will safely ping other iPhones, iPads, etc. nearby to help you know exactly where your lost item is.
Is it safe?
Apple has assured its users that when your AirTag uses other people’s iPhones to locate it, it is fully encrypted and anonymous, so you don’t have to worry about your security while you find your item.
You’ll also be the only one who can see where your AirTag is, so there’s no risk of someone preempting your item.
The Apple AirTag has been in the news lately as some people abused their tracking power and used them to track or stalk which is a criminal offence.
However, if someone else’s AirTag is heading your way, you’ll get an alert on your iPhone letting you know they’re nearby.
This alert only occurs if the AirTag is separated from its owner, so you don’t have to worry about it going off if you’re near a friend and their AirTag.
If you can’t find the AirTag, it will automatically play music until you find it, so you can make sure you’re safe and it’s not on you.
